How to get IPTV Smarters Pro onto your device, log in and load the TV guide, plus the freezing fixes our support team hands out most often.
IPTV Smarters Pro is the app our support team at IPTV West gets asked about most. It's free and runs on most devices people own in Canada. Once it's set up, browsing it feels a lot like flipping through cable. It also confuses people, because the app has no channels of its own. This IPTV Smarters setup guide starts with getting the app onto your device, then walks through logging in and finding your way around. It ends with the fixes we hand out every week.

Think of Smarters as a Blu-ray player. It plays discs, but it doesn't come with any. Your provider hands you the disc: a username, a password and a server address. Smarters reads those and shows your live channels, movies and series in tidy menus.
That split matters when something goes wrong. A channel that's down is on the provider's side, while a crash is the app or your device. It also means the company that makes Smarters doesn't sell TV. A site selling an "IPTV Smarters subscription" is a provider using the app's name. Any Canadian IPTV service that gives you Xtream Codes or an M3U link will work in it, and our plans page spells out what an IPTV subscription should include.
This part changes the most. App stores pull Smarters and bring it back, and copycats with nearly the same name pop up all the time. This is where things usually stand:
On a Fire TV, the sideload takes about five minutes:
From the home screen, go to Find > Search, type "Downloader" and install the app with the orange icon.
Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install unknown apps and turn Downloader on. No Developer Options? Open Settings > My Fire TV > About and click your device name seven times.
Open Downloader and type the link or code your provider sends you. We don't print one here on purpose: they change, and old codes posted online sometimes lead to modified versions.
Press Install, then Done. When Downloader offers to delete the install file, say yes to save space.
When you first open Smarters, it may ask you to pick a TV or mobile layout, then how to add your account. The two options that matter are Login with Xtream Codes API and Load Your Playlist or File/URL (that one is M3U).
Pick Xtream Codes if you got a username, password and server URL. The TV guide, posters and catch-up come along on their own. You'll fill in four boxes:
M3U is one long link holding the whole channel list. It works, but in Smarters the guide often won't load with it, and big M3U lists crawl on older Fire TV Sticks. Keep it as a backup. Our M3U and Xtream Codes guide explains the difference. One thing that saves time here: the Fire TV app on your phone works as a keyboard, which beats pecking out a password with the remote.
After login, Smarters downloads your channel list (give it a minute the first time), then shows a few big tiles:
You'll also see Install EPG and Multi-Screen buttons and a settings gear. Big lists can hold 20,000+ channels, so use the search icon inside Live TV instead of scrolling.
The first time you log in, press Install EPG and let it finish. On a big list that takes a couple of minutes, so don't press anything until it's done. Then open Live TV and switch to the guide view to see what's on now and next.
If shows appear at the wrong time, check your device's time zone first. A Fire TV set to Pacific time in a Halifax living room will be four hours off. If the guide looks stale after a few days, press Install EPG again, or turn on automatic updates in Settings (recent versions put it under Automation).
For the parental lock, go to Settings > Parental Control, create a PIN, then choose the categories to lock, such as adult sections or late-night movies. Be realistic: a determined teenager can get around most app locks. For younger kids, also turn on the device's own PIN (on Fire TV, Settings > Preferences > Parental Controls). When a channel freezes, first ask: one channel, or all of them? One channel usually means that stream has a problem, so try another version of it (many channels come in HD and FHD). Everything freezing points to your internet or Wi-Fi. After that, two settings fix most of the freezing we see:

The Multi-Screen button splits your TV into several windows, so you can watch two games side by side. There's a limit, though. Each window is a separate stream, and each one uses a connection on your account. A standard plan covers one screen, so the second window either won't play or knocks the first one off.
For multi-view, add screens to your plan. On the 1-month plan each extra screen is $7, and the multi-screen pricing lists every option. Your hardware has to keep up too: two HD windows need about 20 Mbps, and a basic Fire TV Stick struggles past two. A Fire TV Cube or a good Android box does better.
These are the problems people send us screenshots of most. Menu names shift a little between versions, but the fixes hold.

If you're not sure, start with Smarters, since it's free and runs almost everywhere. On a Fire TV or Android box, if you mostly watch live channels, try TiviMate; its guide is the closest thing to cable. On Samsung and LG TVs without a Smarters listing, go with IBO Player. All three read the same login details, so switching apps never means a new subscription.
Get Smarters from an official store or your provider's link, and log in with Xtream Codes. Load the guide once and lock what the kids shouldn't see. Yes, the app is free to download. What you pay for is the IPTV subscription you log into, not the player. Watch out for copycat versions that ask for money or for your password on a web page, and stick to official store listings or a link from your provider.
No. Smarters is only a player, a bit like a Blu-ray player with no discs. The channels, movies and series come from your IPTV provider, and you add them with an Xtream Codes login or an M3U link. You can test the whole thing with a free trial first.

Usually yes, as Smarters Player Lite in the App Store. It takes the same Xtream Codes login and has a simpler layout. App Store listings change from time to time, so if you can't find it, other IPTV players in the App Store work with the same details.
You can install it on as many devices as you like and log in with the same details. How many can play at the same time depends on the number of screens on your plan. If the family watches in different rooms, you can add screens to your subscription.
Use Xtream Codes when you can. It loads the TV guide, movie posters and catch-up on its own, and it handles big channel lists better. M3U is fine as a backup, or for apps that only accept a playlist link.
